FAMILY THERAPY
Supporting the Parent/Child Bond
Where appropriate to do so, working with both the child and parent(s) can deliver far reaching and sustainable outcomes. Typically following a series of individual play therapy sessions with the child, the therapist's role is to support the parent/child dyad, to increase insight, trust, understanding and attachment.
Whether supporting reunification work or improving homelife, family therapy can be extremely powerful and affirming. Using a range of fun activities and approaches, including Theraplay, Traumaplay, Therapeutic Lifestory Work and Autplay, the therapist models appropriate ways of providing structure, engagement, nurture and challenge, as appropriate.
